Useful phrases for travellers in Indonesia

Phrases in Indonesian

Knowing a few words in the language of a country you’re visiting is a great way to break the ice – particularly if you’re in an area that sees few tourists. That’s what Dunia Baru specialises in: taking guests off the beaten track and giving them the chance to see “real life” in Indonesia. Of course our crew will be very happy to give you an impromptu lesson in Bahasa Indonesia when you’re onboard, but if you’d like to get a little practise in before you arrive, here are a few words and phrases that will be good to know:

Good morning = Selmat pagi

Good day = Selmat siang (use this greeting between around 10am and 4pm)

Good afternoon = Selmat sore (use this greeting from late afternoon until early evening)

Good evening/night = Selmat malam

How are you? = Apa kabar

I am fine = Saya baik-baik saja

Thank you = Terima kasih

Excuse me = Permisi

No problem = Tidak ada masalah
