Last month Dunia Baru spent some time around Cenderawasih Bay on the wild north coast of New Guinea island. The capital city of West Papua province is Manokwari, and there is a village on Cenderawasih Bay with the same name: it’s a pretty village enclosed by Papuan jungle, and is rarely visited by foreigners.
Instead of sailing past, as so many boats do, Dunia Baru set anchor; the guests and crew went ashore to explore the village, and chef Tom took the opportunity to stock up on some fresh produce. As is so often the case in Indonesia, the villagers were incredibly friendly and in return for their hospitality, Dunia Baru left behind a few things that are quite hard to get in such a remote place.
