“We snorkeled with seven mantas”

Kara Murphy selfie

“The highlight of my time aboard lovely Dunia Baru was exploring Indonesia’s underwater world. We travelled from Bali to Flores via Gili Trawangan, Sumbawa, and Komodo National Park, pausing to snorkel and dive at several sites along the way. While the coral and fish life were impressive everywhere, my favourite spots were Takat Makassir (in Komodo), where up to seven manta rays at once danced below us; the active volcanic island, Palau Sangeang (off Sumbawa), where sulphur gases bubbled up through the dark sand; and Takat Besar (also in Komodo), where we drift snorkelled with the current repeatedly, passing plenty of friendly hawksbill turtles.” – Kara Murphy, Australian travel photojournalist
